FAQ about CrushPak

FAQ

Below are some of the Frequently Asked Questions regarding CrushPak

Q: What Products can CrushPak be used for?

A: CrushPak can be used for any viscous product. This includes yoghurt, dairy foods, fruit pulps and pieces, sour cream, cream cheese, tomato paste, mayonnaise, condiments, sauces, relish, guacamole, salsa, meal replacement options, pet food, jellies, ice cream, syrup and more!

Q: When you use CrushPak is a lot of product left over?

A: No. The accordion design means that whether you’re squeezing or using a spoon no more product is left over than using a conventional cup. CrushPak’s thin, flexible design means getting out every last drop is a breeze. The proof: half a dozen independent consumer tests have found no discernable difference in residual product and CrushPak’s major market success backs these findings up.

Q: Does CrushPak make the product messy to consume or use?

A: No. CrushPak’s unique design means the squeezing action is simple, intuitive and easy to control. It’s no moremessy than drinking a cup of coffee or eating an ice cream. The proof – CrushPak has been a major market success in the United States and New Zealand, shipping over 100,000,000 units in its first year – if it was causing a mess consumers wouldn’t be continuing to buy CrushPak.

Q: What sizes can CrushPak be manufactured in?

A: CrushPak can be manufactured in any size cup between 20g and 500g. CrushPak’s dimensions are essentially unrestricted, although extremes of height or breadth are less optimal as with a conventional cup.

Q: Has CrushPak been subjected to technical or market research?

Yes. Prior to making a commitment to launch CrushPak both A Firm and Dannon conducted extensive technical and consumer research. They investigated three key areas:

  1. Would the cup work?
  2. Could the cup be easily manufactured?
  3. Would consumers respond favorably?

Of course we can’t tell you what A Firm and Dannon found but probably the best answer is that both companies subsequently launched CrushPak products and the products they launched have become highly successful. Ultimately it’s market success, consumers buying the product and leaving bare shelves that is the best market research.

In addition, EverEdge IP has conducted its own extensive research which has supported these findings.

Q: Can CrushPak be used for hot fill products?

A: Yes CrushPak® can be hot or cold filled without difficulty.

Q: Is it difficult to change over a line to CrushPak?

A: No. CrushPak® can be manufactured on existing Form Fill Seal or pre-form lines with only a lower mould change. This means there are very few change parts required between runs of conventional and CrushPak® packs and line transition is no more difficult than any conventional pack change.

Q: Does CrushPak run slower than a conventional cup?

No. In fact CrushPak can run faster than a standard cup due to the reduced material gauge. It also needs fewer heating stations which means less floor space is required for a line.

Q: How much material can CrushPak save?

A: Depending on the exact design we have proven that CrushPak can reduce the material content of a conventional down gauged (ie already material optimized cup) by a further 25% while maintaining or increasing top load structural integrity. CrushPak handled over twice the top load of a conventional cup, meaning cost savings in logistics and shipping.

Q: Does CrushPak require special plastics or materials?

A: No. CrushPak can be formed from standard polystyrene sheet. It has been manufactured in industry standard HIPs, PP, PS, PLA and EVOH and barrier materials. Better still because of CrushPak’s® structural integrity a lower gauge of sheet can be used generating substantial material savings.

Q: What labeling options are available?

A: CrushPak can be top, side, body or sleeve labeled. It is also suitable for in-mould labeling.

Q: Can CrushPak be designed to suit my particular product?

A: Yes. Ongoing research and development by our engineers means that CrushPak can be designed to suit most products and meet most company’s cup specifications. In other words, CrushPak packaging can be adapted to meet your needs.
